This project is a renovation/extension for a young family in need of a larger living space. Located in the Ballarat suburb of Black Hill, the extension is set apart from the interwar period home and is connected via a stepped linkway, creating courtyards between the old and new. The new open plan living space at the lower level opens on to the backyard and allows daily life to spill outdoors. The project features a textured material palette of concrete, natural timbers, painted brick, and compressed cement board. A double-height space above the kitchen provides direct sunlight access and a space for indoor greenery.
